Services in detail

What each service actually includes

Bookkeeping — Buzzards Bay, Wareham & Cape Cod, and nationwide

Running a business on the Cape is seasonal, busy, and unforgiving of paperwork that piles up. Skyline keeps your books current month after month, so you always know where your business stands — and tax season stops being a scramble. Everything is handled remotely with secure online tools, so you get a local bookkeeper who knows the Buzzards Bay and Wareham area without dropping off a box of receipts.

  • Monthly or quarterly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online
  • Bank and credit card reconciliation, every period
  • Clean financial statements delivered by the 15th of the following month
  • Massachusetts sales tax and meals tax filings
  • Payroll coordination and year-end 1099 support
  • Catch-up work if you're behind — see QuickBooks cleanup

Because the same firm keeps your books and prepares your return, your tax season starts from numbers we already trust.

Your exact fee depends on transaction volume and complexity — quoted in writing before work starts. It never turns into an hourly meter running in the background.

Tax preparation — individuals & businesses

Tax season is easier when your preparer knows you before April. Skyline prepares individual and business returns for clients in Wareham, Buzzards Bay, and across the South Coast — and works remotely with clients nationwide. For Wareham businesses on monthly bookkeeping, the same bookkeeper who keeps your books all year prepares the return, so the numbers tie out the first time. Your return is prepared here and e-filed through professional software; your documents move through a secure client portal, never as email attachments with your Social Security number in them.

  • Individuals & families (Form 1040)
  • Self-employed & gig workers (Schedule C)
  • S corporations & partnerships (Forms 1120-S & 1065)
  • Real estate investors — rentals, short-term rentals, cost segregation
  • Multi-state returns — nearly every state (Oregon & Maryland individuals excepted)

Your fee is agreed up front and due before your return is transmitted — no surprise bill after the fact. One scope note, plainly: Skyline prepares and e-files returns. We don't represent clients before the IRS or handle audits — if that's what you need, we'll tell you up front rather than take the engagement.

QuickBooks cleanup & setup

Behind on your books? QuickBooks a mess of duplicates, uncategorized transactions, and accounts that don't match your bank statements? That's fixable — and it's where most of Skyline's new bookkeeping clients start. The cleanup isn't handed off to a junior staffer or an offshore team: the person you talk to is the person who rebuilds your file.

  • Assessment first — we tell you exactly what's wrong, how far back it goes, and what it will take to fix
  • One fixed-fee cleanup quote in writing before any cleanup work begins
  • Rebuilt & reconciled — categorized, de-duplicated, tied to the statements
  • New-company setup — chart of accounts built for your business, bank feeds connected, and a walkthrough of your own reports

We work through a QuickBooks accountant invite — never your password. Most cleanup clients move onto monthly bookkeeping so the books never slide again.

Form 5472, FBAR & international tax compliance

If you own a US business from outside the United States, or you're an American living abroad, your US filing obligations don't go away — and the penalties for missing them are steep. Skyline handles US-side international tax compliance remotely for clients worldwide, through a secure portal, on fixed fees.

  • Foreign owners of US LLCs — a foreign-owned single-member LLC must file Form 5472 with a pro forma 1120 every year, even with no income; penalties start at $10,000 per year
  • Late filings — delinquent years brought current with a reasonable-cause statement requesting penalty relief
  • FBAR (FinCEN 114) — required when foreign accounts totaled over $10,000 at any point in the year; due April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15
  • Form 8938 (FATCA) reporting for specified foreign financial assets
  • US expats — Form 1040 with foreign income reporting (Forms 2555 / 1116)

Scope, plainly: Skyline handles the US side of your taxes. We don't prepare other countries' returns or represent clients before the IRS.

Estimated cost segregation studies

A cost segregation study looks at a property piece by piece and moves parts of its cost out of the standard 27.5- or 39-year depreciation schedule into much shorter 5-, 7-, and 15-year categories. Done in the right year, it can pull years of depreciation deductions into the present — improving cash flow without selling anything.

Skyline's studies are estimated cost segregation studies, prepared by John Vieira himself — not handed to an outside firm. An estimated study uses cost-estimation data and property records to break out the shorter-life components of your building: a practical, lower-cost option sized for the properties most individual investors own — single-family rentals, small multifamily, short-term rentals, and smaller commercial property.

  • Free preliminary savings estimate before you commit to a study
  • One fixed fee in writing for your property before work begins
  • Retroactive application — properties bought in prior years can still qualify, with a catch-up deduction
  • Plugs straight into your return — or a clean report to hand your own preparer

Being straight about the limits: for very large or complex properties, a full engineering-based study may be the better tool — and we'll tell you that before you pay for anything. Timing is where most of the value is, so ask when you're buying, closing, or planning renovations.

Skyline Bookkeeping is an owner-operated firm. When you hire Skyline, John does your work — your books aren't handed to a junior staffer, and your return isn't shipped to an offshore prep pool. The person who quotes your fee is the person who reconciles your accounts and signs your return as preparer.

John started in accounting in 2021, with experience spanning public accounting and corporate finance. He founded Skyline to give small businesses and individuals the thing he saw missing from most firms: one fixed fee, quoted in writing, from a preparer you can actually reach — the same person, month after month and year after year.

Skyline is based in Buzzards Bay, at the gateway to Cape Cod, and works two ways: locally, with businesses and families across the South Coast and the Cape, and remotely nationwide, with the same process, the same portal, and the same fixed fees. Scheduling and client communications are coordinated by Taylor Wheatley, Skyline's Administrative Coordinator — so messages get answered and deadlines get tracked.

Tools we work in: QuickBooks Online & Desktop, Drake Tax with a secure client portal, and advanced Excel — professional software, properly licensed, with your documents behind proper security.

    Questions

    Asked often, answered straight

Skyline's monthly bookkeeping starts at $400/month on a fixed fee, quoted in writing after a quick look at your transaction volume and complexity. There is no hourly billing — the fee you agree to is the fee you pay.
A straightforward individual return is $225 (single) or $250 (joint), confirmed in writing before work begins. Self-employed (Schedule C) returns are $550; S corp and partnership returns are $1,200; each additional state is +$75. E-file is included, and your fee is due before your return is transmitted — no surprise bill afterward.
No. We're based in Buzzards Bay and work with clients right here in Wareham and across the South Coast and Cape Cod, but we also serve clients across the country remotely, using the same secure portal and process — whether you're looking for a bookkeeper near Wareham or a tax preparer in another state. The only exception is individual returns for Oregon and Maryland, which we don't prepare.
Through our secure client portal at skylinebookkeeping.SecureFilePro.com. Please never send Social Security numbers or full bank details by email or text. For QuickBooks, we work through an accountant invite — we never ask for your password.
With the $400 assessment. We go through your QuickBooks file, bank accounts, and prior returns, and tell you exactly what's wrong, how far back it goes, and what it will take to fix — with one fixed cleanup fee in writing. The $400 is credited in full toward the cleanup if you move forward. And honestly is fine — we've seen worse.
Yes. Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 is required every year for a foreign-owned single-member LLC, even with zero income and zero activity — and penalties for missing it start at $10,000 per year. Our current-year package is $600. Missed several years? The $850/year late-filing package includes the delinquent filings and a reasonable-cause statement requesting penalty relief.
An engineering-based study sends engineers to measure and document the property in detail — thorough, but expensive. An estimated study uses cost data and property records to reach the component breakdown, which is usually the right-sized approach for single-family rentals, small multifamily, and smaller commercial properties. We start with a free preliminary savings estimate; if your property really needs the engineering route, we'll tell you before you pay for anything.
As early as you can. Slots fill from January onward, and clients who reserve early and send documents early get filed first. Reach out now to hold your place for this season — a signed engagement letter is what reserves it.
Written quotes are always free — email us the basics and you'll get an exact fixed fee in writing at no charge. A sit-down consultation (up to 60 minutes, $350, paid when you book) is for working through your situation in depth. If you hire Skyline within 30 days, the full $350 is credited to your first invoice, so for clients who move forward the call costs nothing.
